There are different ways to cope with your emotions without the need to reach out for comfort food, overeat or binge.
Serotonin is the key hormone that stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness.
When we eat in response to our painful emotions, we’re looking to get that temporary serotonin rush that food can provide (especially certain types of food).
Did you know that you can stimulate the production of serotonin by reading some positive affirmations or recalling happy memories from the past?
Create your Happy Box following the steps below:
- Grab a tin/box/jar, some pen and paper, and a pair of scissors.
- Create little cards where you’ll write down some motivational quotes or an affirmation, something that you’re really grateful for, or one of your achievements…really anything that sparks joy and makes you happy. Get creative and use craft paper, paint, washi tape, stickers, etc.
- Any time you’re experiencing a painful feeling and you want to reach out to food for comfort, pick one of your cards from the box and read it.
This only might help changing your train of thoughts or help you stay with that feeling without eating your emotions alive.
Love ❤️
