Binge eating: what does it look like to binge? (Video)

February 6, 2021

What binge eating? And what does it look like to binge?

I explain it in this short video.

When it comes to binge and emotional eating often food is not the problem, but the solution.

It’s about using food to forget and put the real, underlying problem on the side for a while.

So, we resort to eating in order not to feel whatever we are feeling.

We might be feeling sad, stressed, overwhelmed, lonely.

Food comes to the rescue. It protects, shields, reassures and comforts. It’s always there.

There are two different levels of support I consider when working with my clients:

Food as the solution.

We work to find alternative solutions, other ways not related to food my client can use to work with whatever emotions or situation they are trying to avoid. Must be something that makes them feel good and it’s not related to food.

Food as Not the problem.

Identify and work on the real problem, the unmet need that’s causing suffering, instead of trying to solve the problem by recommending a diet. This is the main reason diets don’t work: the problem is not food.

It’s what’s floating underneath the water that needs to be looked after and taken care of.

Have a great mindful day.
